We see Nova ($NVMI) as a potential next-generation KLA ($KLAC), and we are backing it to take a larger share of semiconductor process-control spending. Its wins with leading chipmakers are strengthening that case. A leading global foundry has selected Nova’s materials-measurement tools for production of its next generation of transistors. Another chipmaker has adopted a different Nova platform for the same transition. These wins show Nova securing a place in the manufacturing processes behind more advanced chips. KLA’s broader process-control business has a strong emphasis on finding and analysing manufacturing defects. Nova is more concentrated on measuring chip dimensions, material composition and the chemistry used in production. KLA also competes in these areas, but they are more central to Nova’s business. These measurements help manufacturers understand whether each production step is delivering the intended result and where adjustments are needed. As logic chips and memory stacks become more complex, manufacturers need tighter control over the structures they build and the materials they use. Small variations can hurt performance or reduce the number of usable chips. We expect this to increase demand for Nova’s measurements and create more opportunities for its tools to become essential to production. In our view, the Western semiconductor supply chain badly needs new entrants. Equipment leaders $AMAT, $KLAC, $LRCX and Tokyo Electron, design-software vendors $SNPS, $CDNS and Siemens, and $TSM in manufacturing are too cautious and slow to match the pace of startups and highly driven Chinese challengers. Protecting existing products and the returns on past investments can make these incumbents reluctant to pursue technologies that threaten their established businesses.

Personal dip buys from today: $AVGO, $MRVL, $KLAC $AVGO: - Feels like the market has overlooked Broadcom YTD. - I think they're still one of the best positioned in the networking theme thanks to exposure to many diverse areas - optical DSP, Tomahawk, Jericho. - Future growth should accelerate via Tomahawk 6/7 ramping in 2027, Tomahawk Ultra, optical DSPs. - Obviously there are risks with Broadcom but I ultimately see earnings upside = stock should re-rate (at some point lol). $MRVL: - Investor day last week basically confirmed that they're a scaleable AI infra name...not just custom silicon / DSP. - Feels like Marvell's opportunity is now much bigger than most people thought. - E.g. other than 800G/1.6T....NPO/CPO, and scale-out + up. - Still think it's early from them with many areas yet to ramp volumes e.g. 1.6T and NPO/CPO. Overall, feels like both Broadcom and Marvell are very well positioned. Broadcom keep adding XPU customers + extend those deals with hyperscalers. Marvell keep growing, very high torque right now IMO. $KLAC: - Down 42% in 3.5 months and haven't had a position before and wanted to take one lol - more so as a re-rating trade rather than a longer-term hold. - No real in depth thesis, more so a risk/reward play in the broader "AI quality" ecosystem I'm tracking. - Especially when compared against other semicaps like $LRCX / $AMAT that are well ahead in YTD %. Obviously these aren't your sexy names like $NBIS, $INTC or $BE - but I feel like I built my positions in these types of names earlier in the year (was a little late to the Intel party) and don't want my core portfolio to get overly concentrated. That said, I'm well aware that semis earnings are right around the corner and that many of these bottleneck type names have de-rated. But as of right now, I'm sitting slightly on the cautious side by not attempting to time bottoms here. Recent flow data has been tragic for semis, so would rather wait to see a few days of +ve net flows first to get some confidence that investor fatique isn't a permanent scar. There's only so much tolerance investors have for multiple >20% drawdowns in a matter of months.

If you're wondering just how unusual this year has been, here's yet another way to look at it. TWENTY THREE S&P 500 stocks have increased 100%+ this year. That's by far the highest number for at least the past FORTY years (maybe all-time). The stocks that have doubled have contributed roughly 5-6% of the overall 8% gain YTD for the S&P 500. It is highly unusual for an S&P 500 stock to double. In most years, there are at most a few stocks that double. Of course the last time we saw a surge in the number of S&P 500 stocks that doubled was in 1999..... History suggests this type of unrelenting bid will not be sustained. As you look at the list below, you'll notice the only non-AI/semis/data center stock in the S&P 500 that has doubled is $MRNA, which was down (-90%+) from its COVID19 highs. If you're looking for doubles or 10-baggers going forward, perhaps it's time to look outside of the data center trade... $SNDK $WDC $STX $MU $INTC $DELL $MRVL $FLEX $AMD $AMAT $LITE $GLW $LRCX $TER $ON $COHR $MRNA $FIX $HPE $GNRC $KLAC $Q
