Mkt hated $LAD results (stock down 10%). Not sure why (SSS down a tad, margin ~flat). Mngmt called out large discrepancy between $PAG take-private (by founder) and sector multiple. Morningstar: "Think mkt is focused only on co's very near term prospects" $AN $ABG $GPI $SAH 🤷

No clue how this plays out, but $ABG CEO during Q2 earnings what seems to have played out at $AN in Q3... So some of it seems like poor execution/mngmt?
Will be interesting to see Q3 results, but $AN built up used inventory and apparently had to liquidate wholesale at a loss in Q3. But, that seems like an $AN issue... Look at this comment from $ABG's CEO:

@Adam17609412325 Also, given $AN skews more towards domestic (trucks!) with worse MPG than say $GPI and $ABG - which skew more towards imports+premium/premium luxury - I'd think higher fuel prices is a bigger headwind to Autonation

Seaport upgrades $ABG on 'earnings inflection' (bought back 7% of shares in H1, mngmt seems to agree on future prospects/cheap valuation). Autotrader $AUTO.L upgraded by Jefferies as it's apparently an AI winner now (duh).
@BillRoman15 Yes, I broadly agree. $ABG and $LAD went big on M&A, now switched to buybacks. $GPI was more flexible, now a pretty sizeable deal. $AN and $SAH both with failed used dealership investments. As for $AN, you mean buying CIG Financial to launch their own DFC initiative?
@B_Archibald I think that's a personal thing. I don't mind having 25-30% in a single sector, so I'm >20% in $GPI and $ABG currently. I find them easy to average down into given how resilient they are + few Q's around terminal value (imo), but again, miles vary (widely).
I'm fishing but also tend to be early! At 6x earnings for the best store footprint+brand mix, $GPI looks dirt cheap to me. As does $ABG after change of CEO and change in capital allocation. $PAG launching a take-private & $LAD & $ABG hitting buybacks suggest ok outlook. https://t.co/nKPTwKHuDY
