$AN $GPI $ABG $LAD
No clue how this plays out, but $ABG CEO during Q2 earnings what seems to have played out at $AN in Q3... So some of it seems like poor execution/mngmt?
Will be interesting to see Q3 results, but $AN built up used inventory and apparently had to liquidate wholesale at a loss in Q3. But, that seems like an $AN issue... Look at this comment from $ABG's CEO:
$ABG bought back 7% of shares in H1, $LAD hammered the buyback in Q1 before stock ripped. Robert Penske/Mitsui wants to take over $PAG (at a fwd PE of 15x). Meanwhile rest of sector starting to trade closer to 6x, after $AN CFO spooked mkt.🧐
Detroit 3 losing mkt share, while Asian brands benefit from hybrid demand (high gas prices?) & more affordable vehicles. At high end, Mercedes seems to be doing well with refreshed lineup after EV snafu https://t.co/ZDQwaY1npT $AN $GPI $ABG
@Adam17609412325 Also, given $AN skews more towards domestic (trucks!) with worse MPG than say $GPI and $ABG - which skew more towards imports+premium/premium luxury - I'd think higher fuel prices is a bigger headwind to Autonation
$AN CFO and head of IR really spooked the mkt yesterday... What a shitty appearance🤓
"The story of the year has to be the consumer. It's been remarkably resilient in the auto space, and we've seen that with the last couple of months of industry demand, probably been a little bit stronger than we even thought coming into Q3" GM CFO $GM $F $ABG $GPI $AN $KMX
@BillRoman15 Yes, I broadly agree. $ABG and $LAD went big on M&A, now switched to buybacks. $GPI was more flexible, now a pretty sizeable deal. $AN and $SAH both with failed used dealership investments. As for $AN, you mean buying CIG Financial to launch their own DFC initiative?
