Rocket Companies combines Redfin, Rocket Mortgage and Mr. Cooper into an end-to-end homeownership platform, adding mortgage servicing fees…
$Z/$ZG announces it reached a resolution with the FTC on the commission's anti-trust allegations related to the #zillow/#redfin rentals syndication deal. The partnership will continue going forward but $RKT/Redfin will be required to buildout its own rentals listings syndication platform and Zillow will waive any non-competes. My sense is that $RKT/#Redfin are not hugely interested in the rentals space at this time and Zillow's market share gains will continue at a robust clip. This is a positive for $Z/$ZG and eliminates another litigation overhang. We estimate the size of the rental property advertising landscape at $9-$10B annually. One has to wonder where this lawsuit came from given that it involved a $100MM deal in a massive marketplace. $CSGP?
I don't know what people expected for the $RKT print and guide. Always puts and takes, but this was a solid print in this environment. $UWMC just went through the windshield and my guess is that $RKT has some share gains to be had there. Gain on sale in the Pro channel was tight in the quarter so perhaps that reflects some of that.
Thanks again to @realsteveeisman for having me on his podcast again. It's always fun chopping it up with Steve. We talked about a lot of things: the ever shifting dynamics of the residential real estate market ($Z/$ZG, $COMP $RKT, $CSGP etc.), structural problems in for-profit education (it's not just AI), and why I'm short $GOOG among other things. Well, looks like $RKT vacuumed up the entire industry's refi volumes. Not only PennyMac. And 30 yr fixed just hit the lowest in 3.5 years this week. https://t.co/fqJ4bNkmiF
"We're on track to produce the highest mortgage loan production in terms of volume that we've had in four years," says $RKT CEO Varun Krishna. https://t.co/PBOdQTwuKr https://t.co/fqJ4bNkU8d
@MackinacCap Right, I'm just wondering why $RKT stock would be down -13% on this. Seems the wrong reaction?
Going thru PennyMac earnings... why is this not bullish for Rocket Mortgage $RKT? $PFSI is down on accelerated prepayments, and lacking the capacity to recapture them. Meanwhile $RKT's been embracing AI / tech to grow capacity per loan officer, and not needing additional headcount in the next cycle. $RKT also has 80% recapture rate, so their own MSR business should be protected. What are the odds these refinancing's flowed to $RKT, and they meaningfully grew market share this quarter? Am I missing something?
Companies the stories above are also about, besides RKT.
