Secular theme of increasing competition in the coffee space, no issue taking a position against SBUX which still carries a premium valuation largely on that premise. My flip side to that, is why also be long Dutch $BROS? Trades worked against you for almost the same reasons - intensifying competition from direct copy cat 7 Brew. But there are many regional players that are aggressively scaling - Summermoon, Foxtail, Lala land, Merrit, etc and those are the ones just geographically close to me but it's a countrywide phenomenon. Turns out yes coffee is habitual and generates good cash returns, but barriers to entry are low. The bidding war for the Salads real estate was insane, and shows how deep pocketed 7 Brew is in their expansion, and being PE backed and not public means they might be less disciplined...... So why Bros? There might still be potential there, the model is efficient and a cult service culture, but even at current levels I find the valuation difficult to digest not to mention overhangs from GLP1s, affordability/gas prices

As I was working through the insider transactions filed last week for our Insider Weekends article that we have published every Sunday for the last 16 years, these four buys from last Friday stood out to me: 💻 1. A rare insider purchase by Intel's CEO Lip Bu Tan, where he bought $10 million worth of stock after the recent pullback at an average price of $95.00. $INTC The last purchase before that was by the CFO David Zinsner who bought shares in January at an attractive price of $42.50 per share. Former CEO @PGelsinger did even better with his purchases in 2023 and 2024, the last of which were at an average price of $22.53. He is up 365% on that purchase. Lip Bu Tan previously purchased $2.5 million worth of Intel stock in November 2023 when he was the CEO of Cadence $CDNS and was an Intel board member. 🚗 2. A purchase by the Chief Accounting Officer of Valvoline $VVV at an average price of $33.20. While the size of the purchase was not large at about $50K, you don't frequently see purchases by Chief Accounting Officers. @ChrisPavese mentioned that Valvoline was a top contributor to the Broyhill Asset Management portfolio in Q1 2026. ☕️ 3. A purchase by a director of the coffee chain Dutch Bros $BROS where he picked up 2,000 shares at an average price of $51.56. He also purchased shares in May of this year at a slightly lower price. 🧑‍🎓 4. A purchase by a director of Universal Technical Institute $UTI at an average price of $25.94 after a massive drop in the stock last week. Competitor Lincoln Education Services $LINC was also down sharply and I remember liking the thesis for the business after attending a presentation at an investor conference a couple of years ago. Unfortunately I didn't act and buy stock right away. Lincoln is up over 50% over the last year and is up 365% over the last five years despite this recent pullback.

Intensity and rapidness of recent moves is worth acknowledging. Not sure what to make of it. I understand the concept of oil/rates lower improving the backdrop for consumer discretionary but its not as if oil had not been trending lower for weeks, the deal always seemed more priced in versus priced out of markets *and china and us, Japan heavily released reserves to temper oil - so outside front month price movement - oil has been massaged lower for quite some time* Trying to understand what sets off names besides the incremental delta of lower rates.oil to send retail oriented names up 30-50% in a week or two? $ELF $CAVA $SHAK etc and some of these reported weak sales with lowered outlooks. Shak as recently as <2 weeks ago $MGNI - heavy insider selling past few days, stock is 30%+ in short time frame ELF $48-$70 in basically a week CAVA - $70-$92 in a few days -- $bros, shak similar moves $BIRK - pure short squeeze off float dynamics, but stock basically up 60% in a few weeks. Certainly a different market, but not sure its healthy to either see these names artificial pinned down in relation to the rest of the market narrative or react to slight incremental news with the some of the biggest runs in each individual companies entire trading history.....

$BROS always trades expensive, but a near +40% move recently and competition and pricing issues abound. 7 Brew continues to scale rapidly with nearly identical model to dutch bros, a reinvigorated and cheaper Starbucks, plus McDonalds, Dunkin, Sonic and nearly ever other QSR chasing the refresher/dirty soda/energy drink rush + Swig should put increased pressure on refreshers/emerg portfolio as the market gets more saturated, and $ becomes a bigger competitive factor
